Public bodies for product certification of Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal (West Africa) have just obtained international recognition of their competence through their accreditation to ISO CEI 17065 by ACCREDIA.
This result was obtained under the West Africa Quality System Program (WAQSP), implemented by UNIDO and funded by the European Union.
Together with GHANA STANDARD AUTHORITHY, Ghana, (accredited by DAKKS, the German accreditation body in September 2017 with the support of German cooperation), these organizations form the first four public sector product certification bodies accredited to ISO IEC 17065 in West Africa.
With this achievement, ECOWAS now has the first regional competencies from public sector credible enough to assess conformity of products traded on its market.
Indeed, accredited bodies for Product certification from the region are one of the pillars of the ECOWAS Product Certification Scheme.
