“The regulatory framework is one of the cornerstones of consumer protection in all of the community markets”

A specialist in law and consumer protection, Ms. Diane Terblanche provided her expertise and experience to the WAQSP to promote the smooth running of the work of the validation workshop of an ECOWAS Community Regulatory Framework for the Protection of Consumers, held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in November 2018. In this interview, she focuses on the understanding of a regulatory framework.

WAQSP: Who is Diane Terblanche?

Ms. Diane Terblanche: I am a lawyer. I work in the field of consumer protection for almost nineteen (19) years.

WAQSP: Could you present to our readers the content of this Community regulatory framework for consumer protection?

Ms. Diane Terblanche: The regulatory framework is one of the cornerstones of consumer protection in all of the community markets. This one specifically aims to provide information on how Quality Infrastructure and Consumer Protection staff should cooperate to ensure the security of goods and services in the ECOWAS Common Market.

WAQSP: How did you like the quality of the debates on the one hand and the results obtained by the participants on the other?

Ms. Diane Terblanche: The workshop was really very useful. You know, consumer protection must always be seen in a global context, which of the ECOWAS member states, and therefore understand that this context operates within a regional framework. And it was extremely helpful to gather consumer criticism to improve this regulation.
